Steps to Reproduce the Problem:
1. Throw smoke grenade on roof from a distance.
2. Observe smoke bloom is not coming through ceiling, and walk under roof in an area which has no smoke.
3. Experience sudden smoke in your face.

Old Youtube Video of issue:

Fixes Applied since this Youtube video was taken:
8/22
• The smoke grenade smoke is now taller so it's now more useful to use it to block places like double-doors in dust2.

8/10
• Reduced the opacity core radius for player standing inside a smoke grenade.
• Smoke grenade effect now has reduced draw order issues.
• Smoke grenade effect no longer has a great disparity between the screen fog effect and the world fog sprites.
• Reduced the length of time the particle smoke/dust lasts after an HE grenade explodes.
• Fix for a bug that made it possible to throw smoke grenades in such a way that teammates can enter the smoke radius without seeing or hearing the smoke, completely immune to its effect.

Current Demos taken on 9/6 showcasing issue after fixes:

Expected or Desired Behavior:
Smoke Vision Obstruction and protection provided by Smoke Bloom should be consistent with each other.

This isn't 'Poor Experience' it's game breaking... or for anyone that plays competitively.

The smoke SHOULD bloom below the roof... It has to or smokes can be abused in so many ways, not just with this bug. Just as it has to bloom above roofs etc when thrown below.

Realism needs to take a back seat for playability here.

Wherever the smoke lands, create a smoke bloom in all directions regardless of walls, this can and does increase the skill ceiling.

ChocOrange, while I agree the issue is important, we have to let the +1 thumbs up votes determine priority. Severity is measures the impact of an issue on the game, "Poor Experience" is for describing gameplay quality (which is what this issue is about), and "Blocks Playability" is used when the game is rendered unplayable (for example: complete software failure, blue screen of death, etc.)

Smoke should have bounding box of particles on every material.

    Thumbs up.

Mistakenly closed; appears to still be an issue. A better demo showing smoke blindness / zero smoke protection through wall is linked here:

I think this issue is related to this too. There too much bugs with smokes. I fund it cool in CS:S to have some special one-way smokes, but you CS:Go 's smokes seem to be as before OB-CS:S smokes...terrible and mostly useless.

KONDOR7, it's good, we should be able to use smoke grenade to self advantage.
The same is in CS 1.6, you can smoke some place, pull down crosshair and see opponent through it.

It's better for competetive game type.

About the OP video it should be fixed.

There is also a 'reversed' problem. You can stand on a high point in a smoke without getting "smoke blindness". This enables you too look out of smoke without being seen from the outside, just like in the video KONDOR7 linked.

    Update 11/16/2012:
    - Smoke grenade visibility on the edges of smokes has been adjusted to obscure vision less.

BUT this is still not fixed! Using a smoke at the same position as shown in the video still gives the same result!

True, for me smoke should have bounding box of particles on every material.

Does not actually block playability, it's just poor experiance.. also this is an old bug no need to update the milestone.

    Quoting the Bug Writing Guidelines:
If you report a Ticket today and the current Milestone changes tomorrow, it is not necessary to update your ticket with the current Milestone if your Issue/Bug Report is still not addressed.
Yet we're talking about a lot of distance from versions, it's not a yesterday's bug.
There is a 5 updates difference. Milestones' functionality is to keep track of the last version the game had this bug on.
